Lake Chalice The Falcon Merlot 2021, Hawke's Bay

A deep ruby and purple core leads to a bouquet and palate of dark plums and blackberry then a touch of clove and chocolate. There’s a savoury compote quality just before a fine smoky wood layer shows. Dry and quite youthful with a tautness and firm mouthfeel from tannins and acidity. A wine that is still developing to find its perfect balance. Best drinking from late 2026 through 2030+.
